Reiki is a form of energy healing or alternative therapy that was invented in 19th century Japan by Dr. Mikao Usui was developed. According to a study published in 2008 – A Systematic Review of the Use of Reiki in Health Care, Reiki is based on the idea that there is a flow of energy in all living things that supports life. It is used for stress reduction and relaxation, which ultimately promotes healing.

The word Reiki is a mixture of two Japanese words – Rei, which means hidden power, and Ki, which is life energy. This energy healing is more focused on relieving your body’s stress and emotions and purifying your mind and spirit, giving you a sense of calm and peace.

How is Reiki performed?

The setting and ambience for Reiki are the same as for any other soothing or calming massage. The Reiki healer then places his hand over a specific part of the body such as the limbs, chest, face or trunk.

Without touching the body, the healer moves his hands gently over the patient’s body and enables an exchange of energy. The practitioner’s hands may feel warm, and he will only move his hands to another area when he feels that the energy or warmth of his hands has waned. A session lasts between 15 and 90 minutes.
